Meta announced live video ads for Instagram on 15 September 2026, at IAB’s Global Creator Week, with general availability starting 29 September, and says they will be globally available to all advertisers and agencies. Live video ads were previously available only on Facebook.

What changed

A Partnership Ad is an ad that runs from a creator’s content with both the creator’s and the brand’s names on it, instead of from the brand’s page alone. Until now a brand could turn a creator’s Reels, posts or stories into one, but not their Instagram Live. Meta’s Creator Week post changes that: “live video ads are expanding to Instagram”, so brands can show up in live creator broadcasts and, paired with Partnership Ads, promote a creator’s live content.

The same announcement covered the tools around it:

Meta’s numbers come with thin sourcing. It says creator recommendations influence 45% of consumer purchases, with no footnote. Its claim that creator economy ad spend has reached $37 billion and is growing four times faster cites the 2025 IAB Creator Economy Report and Meta’s own shopper research, with no method given.

Why it matters

Until now, the audience for a creator’s Instagram Live was whoever happened to follow the creator and catch it. A live video ad puts paid reach behind the broadcast while it is still worth watching, and runs it under the creator’s name as well as the brand’s.

Our view: this is for brands that already collaborate with creators who go live and sell well. It is not a reason to start live selling. A live ad has a short shelf life, so it needs the budget, creative permissions and audience ready before the creator goes live, not after. Without that groundwork, the live is over before the ad has learned anything. Judge it on what happens during and after the broadcast: messages, link clicks and orders within the hour, against the same creator’s usual live with no promotion.

The Hub changes matter more to agencies than this single format does. Content permissions with expiry dates and one-click ad drafts remove most of the back-and-forth that slows Partnership Ads down today. The MCP connector support means an agency’s AI agent will be able to set up these ads too, under the same permission rules.

What to do

Still unknown

Meta’s post gives no countries beyond “globally”, no date by which every account will have live video ads, and no eligibility rules for creators or advertisers. It does not say which objectives, placements or bidding live video ads support, whether a promoted live keeps running as an ad after the broadcast ends, or when Partnership Ads reach the MCP connector. Creator Marketing Hub features are rolling out through the end of 2026 without individual dates. Meta’s performance figures are its own or IAB’s, with no method given.
